Several Questions...

1. Can I use parts of my 91 wag d44's to conver HD44 and D60 of an 80 J20 to 6 bolt 5.5 pattern.

2. Rear dana 60 is centered, like my d44
3. Front is same side drop as my 91 wag
4. Are d60 rear spring perches 39" vs 32" on my wag, so I'll have to have them re-located?

I'm planning on using bushwacker xj flares to clear the sheet metal.

Thanks,

Jeff

1 - no. the front can be converted to 6 or 5 lug, but the rear can't. The rear axle has to be 8 on 6.5". You could make it a different bolt pattern, but it would still have to be a 6.5" circle based on how the hub protrudes.

If you're trying to save a couple of dollars and not buy new wheels and tires, you can still sneak a 15" over the J20 axles with a little grinding, so you could save your tires, but you will need new wheels, no way around it.

2 & 3- yes, rear is centered and you're drivers side drop IF you get an 80s+ J20. 79 and earlier won't work.

4- yea, you have to weld in new ones.

It's actually a pretty easy swap. I've done it so it can't be THAT hard :D

oh, I've got a couple pics of the swap in my webspace that may interest you.

look under anything called "alxes" or "SOA". Most recent pics are "flex"....

Robseline,

Man thanks for info. I'm also thinking the brakes are much bigger on the J20 than on my rig and will be better with the 33's I want to put on it?

How's the market for 8 on 6.5 wheels? I see Mickey Thompson has the classic lock in that pattern with a 16/8 and 16/10 both with 4.25 backspacing.

Thanks again...

I run 35s on my J20 axles, that's kind of the time when you need to think about it IMHO. If you're running bigger than 35s, switch over.
Anyway, as far as wheels go, I'm running some Bart Super Trucker wheels. I got them from Summit for $60 each, so they didn't break the bank. I did have to grind down the brake caliper bracket up front though, just a little to get them to clear. My wheels are 10" wide with 3.5" of BS (summit say's they're 4", bart's website say's 3.5")
If I could afford to do it, I'd go to 17" rims, but at $150 each, they were out of my leage.

Anyway, as far as brakes are concerned, I can lock up all 4 wheels with these suckers. I'm running a stock master cylinder and a dual diaphram booster.

This pic should give you an idea of the added width:
