Welp the search is on again... The K5 died on me Tuesday and I gotta get rid of it... Today I looked at two, a 73 Wagoneer and a Cherokee... The 73 Wag is lacking such things as power brakes and tilt steering but is otherwise pretty good... Runs like a dream tongue.gif

The Cherokee needs a seat cover, has 200,000 miles on the odometer but looks good... No one was around, so I didn't get to start it up or anything...

Question: I read somewhere that some Cherokee's have no power steering/brakes. Can someone elaborate further?

I don't think installing power brakes in the wag would be too hard... Good luck.

Not true at all...Cherokees were only made post-1974, and were basically all equipped with power steering and brakes. A word of warning on the Wag: most suspension lifts are made for post-74 FSJs, because the spring locations were different. Also, IIRC pre-74 Wags have front drum brakes...not advisable! Good luck on your hunt.

Ooops... I stand corrected.

hey capman, I was gonna ask you if you'd decided to go for the Cherokee, but I didn't see you on IRC tonight. It looks like you've pretty much made your decision. Let us know what you decide to go with! smile.gif

Cherokee is a p.o.s. :(

I spotted a Wagoneer for $850 though... Not sure on year, but it had the leather seats, blue paint, wood panels, cool rims smile.gif

I think it's a Grand Wagoneer, but I wouldn't know.. gotta get someone to talk to me...

also looked at a couple Subarus (fun little cars :P)

put in ad in a local paper for my Blazer... $1000 is my asking price so if y'all want to buy it... buy it... please! smile.gif

If it is the one down on Logan, at Allen's auto, I looked at the blue one last week, it is the one that the guys wife drove back and forth to colorado. Apparently, he said it has some lifter clatter, so I did not really pursue it (I have enough cars as is)

Holy cow, I didn't know anyone was from Cheyenne here smile.gif

Yeah it's the one at Allen's... no one came out to talk to me so I left... I'm gonna keep looking, I don't like/have money for noises :(

Hey capman,
what went out in your K5? What kinda shape is your interior in?

If the '73 is in good shape and runs good, why not. Adding Power Brakes isn't too tough and can be done "as money allows". It's not like it won't stop in the interim.

If the one you looked at with 220+k miles on it is at the same place, I picked it up from them yesterday as a parts truck (same year as mine) But you are right, you would not want it as a daily driver. Surprised they showed it to you. It was just me when I bought it, and so did not have a way to get both home at the time.

It blew a rod last week... The interior is in good shape.. It has seat covers on the front buckets but I haven't looked underneath so I don't know what it looks like... no rips or anything in it... the armrests on the doors are a little messed up, but in tact...

Guess it is not the same one then...

Unless you are talking about the '73

I'll keep an eye out as well if you want. I know where there are a couple more in the area. Drop me a line at my personal address and we can keep from hogging the bandwith.

My brother just bought a clean '84 Grand Wagoneer for his wife to drive, but she decided she wants to keep her Suburban. It's loaded, power everything, mint interior, even has the cargo cover. He had it checked out by a mechanic and the motor is tight. I think he's got about $3000 in it. He lives just west of Denver. I'll put you in touch with him if you're interested.
