My choptop is in dire need of some q trac repairs, the existing case is coming out, bearings are bad, can wiggle the front output yoke with front shaft disconnected about 1/8" or more.

Going back in is my milemarker converted part time q-trac case but its gonna need a chain, has about 2" of play in it.

Now how do I get the silly thing loose, I pulled the case apart in the driveway, its got 2 big gears in there the chain rides on but I cant get em to turn loose where I can get the chain off. Do I have to take the lo range piece off too? Is there some kind of c-clip holding it in? The one gear that replaces the cones acts like it will slide out if I can get the other side to slide out but it acts like there is a clip or something holding it in and my chiltons is about useless on the subject.

The normal procedure is to pull the low-range off first, and then split the case, and usually the two big gears come out and smack 'ya. Then you have to try to put them back in with a taut chain and put it all back in reverse order. the low range is just held on by gear mesh. Sometimes its a little tricky to get apart, and sometimes it willl be difficult to get back together, like something is stuck in there. It's just mean.

Thanx, I didn't remember there being any kind of clip or anything but it just wouldn't come off. Looks like I'll be pullin the lo range tonight.

New chain is on its way from 4 wheel parts, it'll be here in 5-7 days. yipee! Now I gotta get all my seals lined up and the old case outta the way.

The mile marker p/t kit case uses regular Dexron tranny fluid correct?

After struggling with it for a while longer I pulled the lo range and apparently the mile marker version does have a large c-clip to hold it together. Pulled the clip and it popped right out. :D
