Well, I am just about done cutting away the rotten floor in the Cherokee.

Now, what would be better/ easier/ more durable? I can rivet in new sheetmetal, or I might be able to weld in patch panels.
I need your input and suggestions!!! Please help!

I need to do this myself and was considering the fibergalss approach, I am mostly swissed up, pin holes and such, nothing that you could put your hand through. I just want to fill in the holes and strengthen it up, as the metal isn't as thick as it used to be.

I vote for welding, and use 16 gauge metal.

I used 16 ga on mine and welded it in.

I think welding is the way to go, just seems to me that with even moderate tweaking fglass is going to start breaking loose from the metal under it.

If your holes are less than 4" and are not near any load (seat, etc) you should have no problem riveting them in. This is if you do not have acess to a welder. Welding is best.

Use 16 gauge keep at least 1.5" of patch material beyond the whole. Liberally apply body cement/glue between the metal pieces and seal with body sealant.

Floor boards? You have floor boards?? I thought they were optional from the dealer!! :D

If you actually have a large area gone, the only answer is to weld. Right now, Fred Flintstone is the only authorized rider in my 79, since I at present don't have what you could call a floorboard on the passenger side, and the driver's side ain't so good either!! (I'd say not so hot, but it is that!!)

Use 16 gauge sheet metal, and a mig welder. You'll have good results, Larry.
