there is something funky going on with my rear window, sometimes it goes up and down ok, sometimes it doesn't go back up, and sometimes it doesn't work at all, i am assuming that the motor is fine, and i have heard mention about safety switches, and i am sure most of you know, i am all about safety first, that being said, i want to rewire the window, so that i can roll it down, while driving, and actually have it work when i need it too,
i am thinking i will need a 3 way switch and i am going to wire it up to the dash and install the switch there, has anyone rewired these before, is there anything i should know before attempting this??

I found that the wireh harness going into the tailgate from the bed was shorting out. Every now and the the window will quit working. I push the wires around and it'll work again. A simple wire wrap and some grommet material around the hole fixed it. No probs since.

i noticed that the wiring harness was getting pinched at the corners, but without the window being able to go down,. i can't get my tailgate open to look at it again,...... GRRRR!!!!!!

Yes there is a safety switch, it is in the top drivers side. It is hard to see, but it will look like two wires running to this black thing. It is real easy to bypass if you want to check it is is functional. If you think it is bad, just connect the two wires together to bypass it

what does the switch do??
Don't you already have a dash switch for the rear window? Wire the dash switch directly to the rear window.

i have the dash switch, but i know it is linked somehow to the key switch in the back, i am going to get a bit into it tonight and see what i can do, i like the idea of an auto rear window, but not when i can't use the back door when it won't work....
It can be involved trying to figure out where the problem is but if the rear switch is funky it screws up everything. If the safety switch is funky same thing. You can run new wires from your front switch directly to the motor and you're set. If you really want to get into it though, go to the technical library on this site. Some good stuff on the rear window in there.

Yeah jumper the wires comin off the safety switch before you do anything else and see if the problem goes away before you start takin everything apart.

is there a safety switch in these windows??Whenever that happens to me I get a thin screwdriver or stick and stick it in the space where the tailgate and the body meet on the bottom and wiggle the wires a bit to stop the short. Then I spend a few minutes splicing new wires in.
