ive got a '83 J10 with 258.the motor is a about15 months old .once it warms up it has 25 psi of oil pressure.but it knocks .sounds like from down low .i have run it with the timing cover ,balancer,water pump, alternater, and power steering all off.still a knock.any ideas? it is driving me crazy.i have put about 500 miles on it since this started and the sound hasnt gotten worse or better.

Is the knock's speed consistent?, In otherwords, does it increase in speed consistent to an increase in throttle? If so, it's a definite indication that it's related to an internal reciprocating part. If the engine's only 15 months old, it may be a spun bearing or the like.

Drain your oil slowly through a very fine filter (cheesecloth/Coffee filter?) and look for metsal particles.

Even better, drop your oil pan and look in the bottom for particles.

Try to recall when it originated and what conditions the motor may have been under. Certainly check your warranty. A main bearing cap may not have been torqued correctly, lot's of potential causes...
