Just got an AMC AM/FM CB radio. It needs a mic what kind of mic do they use? I remeber there was a thread on this but cant find it. Isnt there wires that need switched around to use a new mic? Also the CB is alot bigger than my old AM radio. About 5/16" X 7/16" bigger. What would be a good way to enlarge the radio openin evenly?

How many pins does the mic jack have 4? 5? 6? I'll tell you who would know for sure or who could find out a guy named John Mahoney at pantherco.com. If he doesnt know he can find out. Also the absolute best microphone for the money (VERY durable and noise cancelling) is the RK-56 by TELEX. He sells them at his web site. Let me know if i can help more.

As far as I know all the stock radios, least after AMC, were the same size. Doesn't mean I am correct though. I do know that it is a pain in the Great Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley Moogley to get the AM/FM/CB into the radio hole though. It involves a lot of pushing, swearing, and smushing of other things like wires and heater tubes. If you do have to cut maybe a straightedge to make a line where you need to cut and a cutoff wheel for the actual cut...

Hope this helps,
Anthony

That radio will accept the Uniden Style mike without the grey key button. The grey key button is not wired corectly even though it is 4 pin. A 4 pin wired for the Uniden Chasis, this includes most all Cobras, Uniden, some Radio Shack. I have had several of these AMC AM/FM/CB radios never was never impressed with the performance. I never felt the RK 56 was a mike for it as it is a real good mike but on a low end CB not practical. I would just buy a $20.00 mike plug it in and let it do what it will. I think the RK 56 are still around $60.00 ;)

Cecil, the later models must have a bigger hole because mine is to small for it. A small cutoff wheel should work good. Oh and how do you like your CB?

CrazyJeepman, I'll go get a cheap uniden style mic and see how it works. Also is it worth the trouble for me to put this CB in? You say you werent impressed with it. I'm not going to be using it heavily. Just something to play around with.

I think it will be fine for you. You have to understand I am a trucker so if a CB does not get out like I think it should I consider it a generic toy. If you want something to play with and to be able to say you have a CB then it will be fine. However if you want power and long range, it will not happen. Before you cut up your dash, I would take the one you have into a CB shop if you have one near you and have it checked out, to be sure it works, and see if it can be Peaked and Tuned for better performance and range. If it works, I would put it in they are a nice OEM piece. I would just have a Galaxy DX 73 as well. :D

Haven't really had a chance to use mine yet as it's sitting the the cab of my truck on some cinder blocks behind my uncle's barn. I had it in when I went up to Crazy_Jeepman's, just hadn't had a chance to get it tuned. I assume it will be fine for you or I.

Prior to removing mine it worked very well. It had decent range, but as Crazy said, I really only used it as a toy. Nothing I would bet my life on.
The PO had just had it at a radio shop and tuned prior to my purchase.

Thanks for the help guys :D I'll get it tuned up and see how it works before I put it in. Should be enough CB for my use.
