The TFI upgrade was so effective on my GW (360) that I've conviced my friend that he should look into doing this for his 304 in his CJ.
So, does this upgrade apply to the 304?
What needs to change... plug gap?, distributor?
thanks!
i would guess that the only difference would be using the correct plugs for the 304. we use the same distributor and ignition module. i am not sure but it should be straightforward with no other significant differeneces

If you read the tech article on the ignition upgrades, in the tech section, it says the upgrade is for the 304/360 engines. Just depends on the year. Check out the article for particulars. Hope this helps you out.

The only issue is what year the CJ is thus what upgrade you want to do. The pre 78 ones (back to the early 70s I think) can be converted to the motocraft ignition using some used/some new parts to get an electronic ignition with the TFI for a pretty reasonable cost. I know quite a few here have had problems with the motocraft ignition box but I have never had one fail (and I am not very "lucky" :D ). Even if it does a spare is pretty reasonable and an easy swap if it is suspect. If money is not much of an object then go with a MSD setup!

I think the year and the c.i.d. is for the assumption that if it hasn't been upgraded already, It will come with the right motorcraft distrib. I have a 401 with the TFI upgrade (it's a 76, but my distrib is an 81 off a 360)
