hi guys! I was hoping someone would be able to help me with my 2bbl carburator on my 1979 J20 360V8 th400 quadra-trac. It has the stock Motocraft Carburator and I find that I smell alot of fuel from the tailpipe, and it goes through alot of gas. In my manual it tells me how to set all the components (choke, throttle adj, idle speed etc) but it tells me to adjust the fuel/air ratio by going to a specialty shop to have it put on a machine. If someone can tell me how many turns to first adjust it to, then I will be able to adjust it after that by trial and error.

Thanks again for your help!

If you have the 2100 or 2150 carb, it's most likely the power valve. It's on the bottom front of the carb. Runs very rich when broke. You can get either just the valve or a whole rebuild kit. The kit has easy instructions. Why do trial and error on adjusting the mixture when a $15 vacuum gauge will make adjustment easy and can diagnose other problems.
