M715, military version of the J series pickup trucks. Considered by many to the baddest, toughest Jeeps ever built.

That does look like fun! Haven't found anything near that yet here in Savannah. You need a winch, or better yet, a friend with a winch so you don't have to mount it to your nice GW!

i think they call them excavators. There was a couple of them up the road clearing out a path for surveyors. we paid the guy 50 bucks and he pulled us all out. If it didn't work out that way my Wag and the other two guys trucks would still be there. No one would take there rides down there it was a death ditch. Anything that went down there got stuck. smile.gif

That hole doesnt look too nasty. Was it pretty deep? Looks like one of those ones that fools ya.

well to tell you the truth i was kinda inebriated and the reason i got that far into the marsh was i had it floored and i think i skipped across for a while then high centerd when lost momentum. smile.gif

Shoot gal, y'all was mud-stuck real good! I think I'd have tried that line to the right that you took -- surely woulda got my silly arse stuck too!
Last time I was in something like that I had tried to cross the Yadkin River in NC with my FJ40. Took 8 trucks tied together to get me out, and Dear Wife had been steaming at home for three days.
Ah, the old life -- these days she'd give me up for dead and call the insurance guy after 30 hours.

:-
I aint one to pass judgement without the facts, but generally, people drive on roads to get to the sticks.
I just get annoyed when people insinuate that drunkdriving (or stoned driving in your case) is funny.
Call me a prude, or a square, or whatever....it dont make me no nevermind.

jode:
I very much agree that driving on the road, whether traffic is expected or not, is a serious undertaking deserving all the attention that can be mustered. My wife was killed by a drunk driver, and I see far too many goofy moves daily to ever become complacent about it.
But here we're talking about whomping around in the mud, which is entirely different! There's gotta be some place somewhere that's amenable to actions otherwise indefensible in polite society, else we'd just frikkin' explode on the goldang interstate! To my way of thinking, the only real danger posed by drunks in Jeeps in the mud is when they don't get stuck and try to drive home. Fortunately, every FSJ has room to stretch out and sleep it off (that's why my $500 Jeep holds a $700 sleeping bag). Unfortunately, not everyone takes advantage of that at the appropriate time.
:-
All that said, I'm more comfortable on the road with someone raising a Jack Daniels bottle than a cell phone.

i got my 53 packard stuck in clay, a 977 cat f/e loader tried to pull it out. he got stuck. it took 2 ten wheelers and about 100 feet of cable to get him out. 2 days and 7 busted bumper jacks later i drove the packard out on planks. theres an excavator or two stuck in a bog in the next town over that been there 20 yrs or so. was like the la brea tar pits. one got mired. the 2nd mired when it was used in a rescue attempt

I've high centered down here before where I had the bumpers on the ground. That's a mud puddle down here. We've got miles of that stuff with no relief in site. Keep your foot in it and hold on til you get to the other side. I went through a 3 ft. deep pond before. Now that was fun!

just to clear this up ... i go camping and set up site and drink in the woods and fart around in 4x4s. I don't drive drunk around town ... I'm sorry to hear that serious johnson. I'll try not to bring cheap humor to this forum anymore :(

Rande, I always thought you could use an FSJ to carry a "spare", now I have proof positive!!
GLD, great pics, and yup, FSJ's CAN intimidate the "lesser" Jeeps!! :D

Serious Johnson, tried to cross the Yadkin River in my CJ-5 with 35's the night before I had to take the SAT....needless to say it was my best stuck and best score on the SAT out of three times. 10 years later still big laugh for all high school buddies, I went back in the daylight crossed several times...note to self...water crossing=daylight...good stuck=good SAT score

our worst stuck was a big ole ford f150, on 38's. he went into the mud, and was going fine. then it just stopped all forward momentum. a wall of mud in front of him. 3 trucks chained toggether couldnt get em out. winch just pulled the three other trucks into the mud. we get a rollback in there, but the bad straight out to the back of the truck. then we found out u can walk ontop of the mud. ran winch from rollback to his truck and lifted straight up. nice suction sound.here he had also busted the front end in two. snaped everything. tire stayed inthe mud till tierod drug it out.
So was it just you an' the little jeep that got stuck? Who made it further?... had to ask!

Yeah a M715 would look dope with fake wood...in fact eveything looks better with fake wood. I hear of people all the time trying to remove the wood from their Grands, I think the wood is the best part. When mine gets bad I'm going to take it all off too...then replace it with new wood.

They get stuck in the red clay very easy, and sometimes go upside down if you are not careful. That is why they have massive roll cages. Just pull em back over and keep on going.
That is awesome!!! It's not every day you find mud deep enough that nothing but a tractor can go through it!! Good find, and now you've got a goal. To get through it!!! All you need is bigger tires, bigger motor, and alot of the skinny right pedal. :D

mmm k, seems we have everyones opinion covered, i think in the future maybe sometimes when we have a strong opinion we should communicate it through PMs, they must be there for a reason, strong opinions+public forum=pissed people and hurt feelings. I understand if u dont believe in sumthin, stand up for it, but you dont have to make really make it public either.

Bob, I think you are probably right on this one. I've made my opinions known, but in lieu of what you wrote, I have deleted my replies.

The worst I ever got stuck was in 93 Ford Ranger. It was even 2 wheel drive. I was in Virginia in the navy on Little creek Amphib base. The hole I got stuck in a truck with 44 got stuck in it also. I used to drive down this trail all the time. I went on deployment and come back six months later and not knowing what had happened I ventured out. I even had water coming in my cab about 4 inches deep. I had to get a Toyota with 35's to pull me out. Now that was embarrassing!
