I dont know anything about carbs and thier intakes, cause all ive had were throttle bodies and fuels injection truck. But my 1980 J10 has carb problems. I know to go up to a 4bbl carb, I need a four bbl intake. Now im picking this truck up in the morning and it's either a 1bbl carb or 2. My question is, is the a different intake between the 1 and 2 bbl? Say a 1bbl intake and a 2bbl intake? We have an old 63 wag parked in a barn, down on our farm. It has a 230 in it, but my dad put a brand new holly 2bbl carb on it 3 years ago. Drove it about 10 ft and one of the valaves got stuck. So there it sits. Anyway, I figure I could use it on my 258 with maybe an adapter? Thanks Dennis

If it has a V8 its a 2v. If its a 258 (in which it is if the same truck in your tire question post) then it may very well have a 1v, as many of the CJ's did. I *think* the intake is different for each. But dont quote me on that.

Since it's a 1980, and if it's a 258, it'll have a 2 barrel aluminum intake with a Carter BBD carburetor. The Carter is a real crappy carb, so if you want to swap it out, the better. You will need an adapter, though, to fit the Holley 2bbl on the intake as the bolt pattern on there right now is a small Rochester type pattern. Summit Racing will have what you need. The adapter is made by TD Performance. Anything else?

Rusty,
I've had two 1980 258 engines and they both had cast iron intakes and the simpler Carter carb. The 1981 and up 258 had the aluminum intake and BBd Carter carb and those are toilets and not worth a hoot when combined with the computer controlled timing that came from the factory.

I have a 1980 Cherokee with a 258, 2 barrel Carter BBD, non-computer controlled. Yes, it's turning out to be a pain in the Great Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley Moogley.
