I completed the tfi upgrade this weekend and was wondering; should I change the spark plug gap from what it was before the upgrade? To be honest, I can't tell much of a difference in the way it's running but will be interested to see if the mileage improves.
TIA

I'm having good luck with a gap of about .045", or thereabouts.

I plan on trying side gapping next, and see what, if anything, that gets me.

Thanks for the quick reply. Also, it seems to be knocking more while speeding up during or after highway driving. I saw somewhere that changing the timing is necessary after the upgrade. What should it be changed to?

Mine's running fine at 8* BTDC, no knocks under load at all.

If you have a vacuum gauge, you can set for maximum vacuum, then back off for a 2" drop in the vacuum signal.

Can someone explain how to do this? How do you get the vacuum to increase and decrease? Are you measuring the dist. vacuum advance port? Then the engine must be running to do this right?

Use manifold vac and yes the engine must be running. Hook the gauge to a manifold port ,adjust the timing by turning the dizzy until you get the highest reading on the gauge, then retard the timing 2" of vac.

jeepbob- Where can I find the manifold port? Sorry but this is new to me. Can you give me some help to adjust idle mixture on my motorcraft 2150?
TIA

Buried in the mass of hoses and tubing, right in front of the carburetor, is a "vacuum tree", that you'll be able to hook up a vacuum gauge to.

To adjust the idle mixture screws, you'll want to adjust one side first, for max vacuum (do this after setting the timing), and then turn clockwise about 1/4 turn, then adjust the other one. This will leave you just a little bit rich, but not enough to worry about.
