The fuel guage is very sensitve to starting and stopping. When I come to a stop it will read full, but when I accellerate it will go back to the true level. It will also not go below 1/2 a tank. When it gets below a half a tank it will stay pegged at full. I really need to have an accurate guage because I travel and drive long distances frequently. TIA

Sounds like the sending unit inside the tank could be bad. Mine won't go much about 5/8 tank and is off about that much all the way down. You can access it without taking off the tank. There is an access hole under the rear seat. pull back the carpet and you will see it. If you have a Haynes manual it will tell you how to test it with an ohm meter.

Check electrical connections outside the sending unit first(right under that access hole in trunk area). My tank was empty when gauge shows half tank. It turned out connectors are oxidized and causes increase in resistance, hence false reading. Empty tank should have 1 ohm or around thereof. There is also an article in Tech Library.

Same here. My fuel gage had always worked. However, for some reason, the PO had wrapped a piece of wire around the rear bumper. The wire was connected to a ground lug on the frame under the rear bumper. The ground lug also had two factor wires attached to it. I decided to remove the wire since it didn't seem to be doing anything. When I did, my gas gage pegged out. When I re-attached the wire, it started working again. I decided to clean the the lug and reattach the factory wires. That fixed it, and I haven't had a problem since.
