Does anyone have information as to what axles and engine/trans/t/c a mid-80's military Blazer would have?
I know the 1 ton CUCV pickup trucks came with the 6.2 diesel, th400, t/c?, Dana 60 front, 14 bolt rear. Were the Blazers equipped the same? :D

Thanks,

Kim

afaik, they all were 60front/14b rear with 4.56 EXCEPT the m1008 which had 10 bolts and 3.08 gears

The CUCV Blazers are equipped with 10 bolt front and rear axles with a very crappy 3.08 gear ratio.
Otherwise the engine and drivetrain are the same.
I have owned these and the gear ratio kills performance. Axle swaps are easy and Blazer axles with better gear ratio's such as 3.73's or 4.10's are plentiful and cheap. Chevy truck 3/4 ton axles are a bolt in with some cases needing the rear perches moved. Of ourse, the CUCV truck Dana 60 and 14 bolts will go into the blazer also as a total bolt in except moving the rear perches 2".

I sold my Cherokee WT to a friend a couple of years ago and replaced it with one of these CUCV Blazers. Did a Dana 44/12 bolt axle swap with 3.73's. It was OK, but no way does the handling or quality come even close to a FSJ. The CUCV trucks are the same in terms of bodywork and such. They just do not compare to a FSJ.

The "military" Blazers are just spartan remakes of the real thing. There's nothing extra at all, except for the 6.2 diesel, that's it.

I thought they were also blessed with a 24v electrical system. My cousin in the reserves was in charge of a fleet of those, and used to always curse the eletrical accessories.

Just the starter is 24 volts and it has dual 12 volt alt's and batteries. Everything else is pure civilian. The BIG problem the CUCV's had was the glow plug relay system. Total POS and easily bypassed with a momentary type button or toggle switch for trouble free reliable operation.
