With all the talk a week or two ago about cages, I was wondering what the cost for a full cage should run? A local shop that I am friends with the owner quoted me $1000 ballpark. Is this really what everyone else who doesn't have a bender is paying?

Mine cost a total of about $600, though I did lots of the work. I have a buddy with a bender, so he bent all the tubing to my specs and I cut and welded everything together. Materials alone were about $450.

$1000 is a good ballpark for a well built cage. I would ask for reference to other cages the have built if your uncertin of there quality.

Yep, Tubing suitable for saving your life aint gonna be cheap. Dont skimp here if your serious enough about your wheelin to need a cage.

$1000 is a very good price if it is a quality 6 point cage tied into the frame. A friend of mine just had an excellent cage built by a well known 4x4 fabber that cost $3000 and he was very happy with the price.
His cage was a 6 point that included seat/saftey harnness mounts, full gussetting, gauge pod and steering column mount, and it was all tied into the frame.
My external cage cost about $400 and I am pretty sure I will have well over $1000 invested in materials, etc. for the inner cage that will include everything the above friends cage included. My external cage will tie into the internal cage via the roof.

two things. First, FSJeeper, where did you get a "look alike M715 rear shortbed"? I need one for my J10 (I have the M715 front fenders.
Second, I have a in-cab thru the dash cage with bars attaching front and rear down points with 2 horizonal bars behind the seat (also tucks into the "brow" on the roof. Have about $300 into materials, so a Chero or waggie $1000 sounds about right.

I posted a short time ago that material costs of a full cage for my rig was estimated at about $500.00. That was 1.5" X .120 DOM tubing at $2.00 per foot and all the other stuff. The bender and stuff is going to set me back another $751.95 plus tax.
So $1,000.00 for a well built cage is a good deal if it is quality and the fabricator uses DOM tubing.
Maybe I should rethink this cage thing...noooooo I want my bender :D

j10jim, I know Fsjeeper built his "look alike m715 shortbed" himself. I actually asked him the same question earlier. I would reccomend just giving your bed flares to match the front.

Well at least I know I'm in the ballpark. And as far as quality, I have no doubts.

Has anyone tried an in-cab cage kit for a truck in their Cherokee or wagoneer?
