At the right angle connections to the compressor, both hoses have a loose connection and you can rotate them a little. I think that’s the way they should be, but can’t remember.
As a comparison, my little Cherokee has tight connections, but it has a different compressor.
So should the hoses be tight???

I actually replaced the larger hose twice because that very condition disturbed me so much, and I didn't want to waste a couple pounds of good old ozone-depleting R12 on a leaky hose.
I ended up putting an extra rubber 0-ring in there just to be sure. The hose still swivels, but it's held the charged R12 just fine for over a year.
Another tip, for anyone reading this post, is to run your A/C for a few minutes each month even if it's frigid outside. This circulates the lubricant that is in the system and prevents the seals and 0-rings from getting dried out, which in turn leads to leakage. The system shouldn't need an annual refill of refrigerant if the seals are good -- it should last for years and years.
