I have gathered from reading the Tech Forum that I need new vacuum lines ,fuel lines, and fuel filter. I havn't had the time to do the work and it has gotten worse. I pulled a spark plug and it was black. I can't drive it now, it will run if I keep my foot on the pedal at all times. A black chalky smoke comes out of the exhaust.
I'd greatly appreciate any suggestions. Thank you, Steven

Well, since you fed us that straight line...
How about starting with replacing the vacuum-lines, fuel-lines and fuel filter??? ;)
You might as well do a carb rebuild, as it sounds like you may have a blown power-valve (presuming this is a 2-bbl 360; you didn't say what kind of FSJ you have, what year it is, or what engine it has). And if the plugs are black, change them.
Replace those parts (you're looking at less than $50), and then we'll see if there are any further problems.

I agree with Bob, start with the basics.
This would be my list of priority.
1.) Carb rebuild is a must IMO. This is a good place to start since so many problems start at this area. Once you know your carb is solid you can start to move outward.
2.) Vacuum lines are cheap, just takes time. Make sure you check what you have vs. what the diagram on the driver's side sticker, right next to the hood release lever says, mine wasn't plumbed right when I got it. Haynes has a pretty decent write up on this and there is a life-saving diagram in the tech section. Vacuum problems are an endless source of headache unless you go through and make them 100%
3.) You should be ready for cap/rotor/wires/plugs/pcv/fuel filter/air filter. I would FOR SURE look at doing the TFI upgrade at this time. Look in the tech section for a write up on this. You will spend a little more $$ vs. a stock tune up but is WELL worth it.
5.) Anti-knock EGR kit. This kit works wonders IMO when you have to keep the emissions equipment.
That is what I would do. Hope that helps.
Phil
PS: You have an '85 Grand Wagoneer w/ the AMC 360 right? (I'm assuming from topic title and common equipment)
