View Full Version : Emergency drive light
Has anyone experienced a problem that I am having with my 79 Cherokee’s emergency drive warning light? Whether I have the switch in emergency drive or not, the light glows dimly at low revs, and brightly at high revs. Could it be a vacuum or an electrical fault?

You might have 2 separate issues. One, the brightness of the light would change in that the alternator puts out higher output at higher revs, and thus the light would be brighter. This is common with older vehicles. The headlights probably do the same thing.
As far as the light staying on, that could be caused by a faulty vacuum switch, or the Q-trac case could be stuck in e-drive mode. Others could probably help you better diagnose that; I have only slight experience with the Q-trac case.
