There are a few people that have done this. More common is the 4cyl cummins as it's a bit smaller but the 6 will fit with a large shoehorn. smile.gif
The six is quite a bit more common I think than the 4 is, pricewise probably pretty close though.

i can get a 6bt cheaper than a 4bt, but can and have seen both in yards aroudn me. 6bt is about 1500-3000, but comes with a complete Freightliner schoolbus(company i work for) and the 4bt is in a yard, guy wants 3500 for it. 90000 on it, turbo, intercooled.

I know it will fit easily, just the wiring bugs me.

3500 for a 4bt seems like a lot. 3000 for a 6 wouldn't be real bad. Sometimes if you watch the deals though you can get a motor/trans/t-case for about those prices...maybe a bit more.

For 2500.00 I got a rolling Chassis 92 Dodge 4X4. Good running Cummins 6BT, OD auto trans (has problem) NP205, Dana 60 front, dana 70 Rear. I am looking forward to swapping it into my Cherokee. ;)

aalike i said about the six popper, it comes complete wiht a schoolbus. which means many parts for resell, inluding the allison tranny, rears,tires/rims, ext. then scrap the rest of the bus. could get alot of the moeny back and end up with a 125000 miled cummins for less than a grand. i know i can sell the trannys for 1500.

So is there anyone who could direct me in the extra parts I might need? Is there anything I should know? Will I be able to use all my electrical? How do I find engine mounts that will fit? Can I switch to a manual tranny? I know I will need to probably do a custom exhaust... Is there anything else I should know before I begin?

Have done the GM 6.2/6.5 swap and it is the easiest and cheapest diesel to swap in a FSJ.
Have watched first hand the Cummins 6BT swap in a FSJ. Not as easy, but can be done without super major problems. Your front frame will have to be beefed up. You'll have to fab motor mounts. You'll have to run a 3" body lift. You'll have to get a custom radiator built. If you go intercooling, it will have to be water to air for it to fit. Also, you'll need much heavier front leaf springs.

Man I don't think the regular D44 front end
is going to like a 6BT sitting on it for long,
if you go that route, at least think of going to
a D44HD or better yet a D60 front.

There isn't any difference in weight capacity between the D44 and the D44HD really. Both can have the same big bearings. Only real difference is 8-lug and a bit more webbing.
A D60 would be a REAL good idea.

This horse has been beat to death many times here in the past. It is basically the same swap as your typical SBC or BBC and uses the same adapter mounts, etc. If you want a 20 mpg + FSJ, this is the way to go.

I'm fond of the Ford super duty 7.4liter. Is that a lot different a swap? Any lighter. How does emissions and inspections factor in? I'm in NY. Not the city though.
