Hi there, Iīm one of a few GW Owner in Germany for about 2 months. My english isnīt that good, so please appologize for this.
I have a serious problem with my engine. I installed an Edelbrock Carb with an Adapter, new plugs and new cables. I was about seven to eight times at my mechanic but he doesnīt get the problem fixed. The engine runs really bad when the e-choke cuts off and every day I run the car, the idle speed is different. Also, when I push the Gas Pedal, the engine doesnīt run continousely, there are little wholes. Last but not least I make only 120 miles with one gas filling. My mechanic told me, the carb. is working perfect, but what could be the problem?
I hope you will have some answers for me.
Thanks.

Andreas,

Please send me an e-mail at kbidwell@winstar.com, in German, explaining all your troubles. Between my German mother and half-German self, I should be able to understand your problem.

Welcome Andreas, you've come to the right place. I don't run the Edelbrock carb myself, but a number of people here do. What model carb is it?? Do you have it mounted on the stock manifold?? What year GW? I assume that your GW ran well before the carb change. I would suspect that while the carb is "working perfect" that it may be either out of adjustment or may need different metering rods and/or jets. The metering rods along with the jets determine how much fuel is supplied to the engine. You should also check the plug wires to make sure they are in the correct firing order and are making good contact.

There are some threads here that have some info about edelbrock setups.

This may give you a direction in which to go to find your problem. Keep us posted on how things go or with more questions.

Herzlich willkommen, Andreas.

Nice to see another European on this board. I looked a little through the member list and I think you're the only one from Germany. Nice place, Wiesbaden. I pass by once in a while. A few weeks ago in my Wag, with another fsj on a trailer.

Add your car in your profile registration. If the forum knows what car you're driving, you can get better help.

Ralph, Army or Air Force brat? Army for me. I know Frankfurt and Wiesbaden were mainly Air Force, but there were some Army folks stationed in Frankfurt.

Army brat. Later, an Army grunt with a girl scout hat (hey, that rhymed!): http://albums.photopoint.com/j/ViewPhoto?u=1326319&a=9858031&p=34107600

Also speak French, and took either CLI or DLI courses for Korean, Arabic-Syrian, Norwegian, Spanish, and Kurdish. Army sent me to school to get a degree in International Studies.

Then I got the heck out...

Wow, Iīm really impressed about your cooperativeness. What I will do is to open a new topic in german and keep this one in english running. Here are some more informations:
Reddog, my mechanic told me that he has controled all the adjustments on the carb.
Also all the plug wires are on their right position and all is new. Also the timing has been fixed several times to control this.
The original manifold and Airfilter is still in use. All these smog things are not connected anymore.
The funny thing is, because of these problems I bought the Edelbrock. Now I still have these problems, but the power of my engine is much more better. A new problem is when I climb hills onroad the power is really poor.

Ralph,

I wouldn't call that a girl scout hat. Wearing that beret is definitely an honor many never achieve.

Man with all those languages, do you ever interchange any words by accident? http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/smile.gif

If the problem existed before the carb change then you may consider changing the Duraspark ignition box. It is the small box with 6 wires (2 connectors) that is mounted on the inner fender on the drivers side of the engine compartment.

check out the coil. if the jeep has a catalytic converter. remove it. check the transmission fluid, if it has a burnt smell it is slipping. good luck
