There's a trac-loc differential for sale on eBay at http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=449999022.

I have 2.72:1 axles in my '88 GW. Will this trac-loc fit my rear diff?

Yes I belive so, Dana 44,s . looks like front and rear 3.73's and the trac lock for the rear.. and If I am correct 3.73 is as low a gears as you can go on your stock carrier. (ie, the front one). so I would say. yes. Help me out on this one folks.

All I know is that in catalogs these things are listed for either a 3.73 and higher carrier, or a 3.73 and lower. That's why I asked about this particular item.

They will work... but what tire size you running..... under 33's... you'll be fine. They con't hold up to any abuse with a 33" tire... maybe a year if your lucky... Scotty will tell ya the same.

yep- a trac loc is a limited slip that just doesnt work very well.i dont know if it has to with the clutches, the preload,or what, but you will only get both wheels to spin with it if they are both on an equal traction surface. if you get one wheel in the air,or maybe one on ice,the other on pavement, youll get the same one wheel syndrome that you have with an open diff. plus the trac loc is prone to breaking spider gears. the advantages of it are that ther are rebuildable(new clutches and spiders available),and if you drive it mostly on the street, youll never know its there.they are also dirt cheap-you could prolly buy a brand spankin' new one for about $189,so dont pay too much for it. it prolly will work ok in street snow driving, but if you want a good traction device for off road use,the trac loc is not it.

the carrier will fit front or rear, and the smaller carrier fits 3.73 and higher(numerically lower-2.72 to 3.73). for gears lower than 3.73(numerically higher) you will need a different carrier.
