oil pressure question

in the middle of a oil pump repair kit, where does the oil travel when a high pressure is felt (when plunger on relief valve moves). what path does it take, back to pan? just curious

No, it goes through the bypass back to the inlet side of the gears(as it will just recirculate the same oil)
