The latest issue of JP magazine had a section entitled "Building the J-Truck", in which they make a case for putting longer chevy truck rear springs on the front of the FSJ. Has anyone tried this?

JP Magazine is a magazine devoted entirely to the Jeep. They have a section dedicated to our FSJ's.

Check out the website:
JP Magazine Website (http://www.jpmagazine.com/)

It is a good magazine. I enjoy it and get it every month.

It has alot of CJ stuff in it, but the trips and the tips are pretty good.

Just curious, what part of the state is Topton in? I am in the south central part just about 40 miles south of Harrisburg.

the chevy springs fit right in.they were 10 inch lift chevy fronts.way too high with the soa so i had to take 2 leaves out to get it down a bit.now they are actually a tad too long but im running long shackles to compensate.im in the process of putting a bigblock chevy in now and if the extra weight makes it go down at all ill put the leaves i took out back in.there are a couple of pics here.

How about some more details on this Chevy spring substitute. I'm a bit strapped for cash and I need to raise the truck a couple of inches. Please advise if this is a workable as there are many Chevys in the boneyard.

Thanks,

Greg

What year model chevy springs? What did you use for the back to compensate?

ill try to find out exactly what chevy springs they were.in the rear im using 4 in skyjackers.under these i put the stock front springs with the eyes cut off.under that ive got a 5 in block.i had horrible axle wrap with the skyjackers and the 5 in block and had to run ladderbars to to control it.its working good now with the front springs added to stiffin it up.
i also recently removed my front swaybar (noticed no difference)and im running 4 shocks up front.

Mark, how big are those tires? Your rig is tall man! Looks awesome.

WOW! How'd you stick the two spring packs together!?

i run 42 inch tsl swampers.hopfully 44s soon.(after inspection of course!)
coupling the spring packs is easy ,you just have to buy a new long centerbolt, and remove the old.make sure you clamp then with c-clamps 1st.

Them are 42's.... I remember those... I talked to Mark about them when he thought he couldn't get around the Law, hence he's "Above the Law" ;)

Yeah, I know about the C-clamp thing. I sheared a spring pin once and lost my leaves all over the place, had to clamp the pack back together. Could you believe someone on the trail ACTUALLY had a spring pin bolt there!? 10 hours later (since I had to run back to my house 40 miles away for a floor jack and some tools!) I had my pack back together.

MArk where did you get the cable for the Tcase 2wd-4wd? What type of handle does it use in the cabin? Do you have parts #'s? Thanks
Dave

I just got to the last picture. Are those boat controls? Very ingenious.

they are actually cables from a klune-v crawl box that we used on the ford.they are made by a company called tutill controls.they work great.ill get a website tomorrow.nice talkin to you guys ive been out of the computer thing for quite some time now.
i recently bought what i thought was a 454 for my rig and it will be here soon .the guy called the other day and said that it actually says 502 on the valvecovers.im keepin my fingers crossed.that would be a nice surprise!
