I broke off two of the three mounting screws this
weekend while trying to mount a hub cap.

What's the cure for this? I assume that I have to have them drilled out and retapped.

Who can best do this? Tire store?

What can I do to prevent a repeat occurrance?

Are the holes for screws? Bolts? What? Each wheel seems to have something different.

Thanks.

After a bit of trying to keep those worthless things mounted I pulled them all off. They are now wall ornamnets in my garage. They use a screw with self tapping threads. I suppose the best permanent fix would be to drill and tap them for helicoils. Or at the very least some larger machine screws.

Same prob here. I ended up drilling the bulk of the screw out and throwing self tappers back in. The bonus for that is that self tappers are hex so they're easier to remove.

Seriously, though. Is this any way to mount a hub cap?

Uhhhh, yeah. Seriously. I'd call it an "improved method" rather than "any way".

I turned the cap one nut clockwise and drilled new holes...only works until you break those off too!!
