I am at my wits end. My 77 Cherokee has developed a strange quirk. After approximately 30 miles of driving, it develops a strange miss. It seems like the engine is not getting any fuel and the engine trys to die. It only does it when I start up the slightest incline. Downhill or on the level no problem unless I attempt to give it gas. It only does this after it warms up, while it is cold it runs great.

I have replaced, plugs, batttery, coil, fuel filter, fuel pump. I have checked the choke after it warms up and the flap is vertical like it should be.

What in the world is going on? Do I need a new carburator? I am about ready to sell this thing. Help!!!.

Probably just your carb... accelerator pump.

Would say float, but you said it runs fine when cold.

Try a rebuild kit on the carb... $20 won't kill ya....

Boy, 30 miles is a long way to run before it starts to run bad. Maybe look for something weird like a fuel tank vent clogged or wrong gas cap. Next time you drive it 30 miles, pull over, shut it off, open the gas cap and listen for it sucking air. If it does, the tank is running in a vacuum and the fuel pump cannot pull fuel from it. If this is the problem you can at least go another 30 miles before repeating the procedure http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/wink.gif
It is unlikely the problem, but an easy one to check.

Good call FSJNUT... didn't even think about the 30 mile thing...

I heard of others drilling a small hole in the cap as a quick fix for that, too.
