If its not one thing its another, changed the oil today, and the oil dip-stick tube broke, it was very rusted. I guess this is a dealer part?
How does this get replaced?

Same thing happenned to me on my old J20. A dealer can get on for ya for about $20. You might be able to save a couple bucks somewhere else but is it worth it? I mean there's a Mopar dealer in almost every town.
Putting it in is another matter.
The tube has a sort of ridge around the circumfrence that needs to be pressed into the block. I don't know if there's a special tool to do it but I used an impact hammer with an attachment on it that fit in the end. You gotta be careful not to distort it though.
I don't think I ever got it to fit just right.

Good Luck ;)

sjp88grndwagon, did you get the broken piece out of the block? If not and its giving you trouble try this. Last summer I helped a friend extract one from his 401. I used a screw type easy out, twisted it into the tube to get a bite, I then clamped a mini pair of vise grips to the easy out and gently tapped upward with a light hammer. I had to reinstall the easy out a couple times, but it eventually came out... Careful tapping in the new one. That swedge thats supposed to stop the tube from going into the block any further is already stressed from being pressed into a swedge shape and a heavy tapping may collapse and weaken the swedge further. Try installing it by hand first with a light twisting motion. Good luck, I hope this helps...

I GOT MINE FROM THE JEEP DEALER , DONT REMEMBER THE PRICE. IT HAD TWO RIDGES ON IT AND THE BIGGER FLARE THAT STOPS IT (THE ONE YOU TAP IT IN WITH) AND MINE WAS REAL TIGHT AT THE RIGES SO I TOOK THE RIDGES DOWN SOME WITH A BELT SANDER , MORE OFF THE FIRST AND LESS ON THE SECOND ONE! I WAS AFRAID TO BREAK IT AGIAN AND IT WENT IN ALOT EASIER! I COULDN'T GET MINE OFF FROM THE TOP AND NEEDED A NEW OIL PAN SO I DROPPED THE PAN AND TOOKIT OUT FROM UNDERNEATH! HAVE FUN

I hate to say it, but you may not be able to install the new one without removing the exhaust manifold. I have this problem with my '90...

Well I was able to get this done today. This took me 4 hours to get done. It was a PITA to get this rusted piece out of the pan. I have to wait until friday to get the tube from the dealer, (6.50) So it has a plug in it for now. I hope to never do this again!!! Not the best job to do

If you don't have the brace that atatches to the valve cover you might want to get one so your new one lasts.

Did one a couple weeks ago, spent all kinds of time trying to get it into the block until I removed the exh. manifold (found out NO GASKET) and did a little filing on the leading edge of the "swedge". So new pan seal, exh. manifold gasket, exh. donut and tube and I was done :D

If and when I do it again, the exh. manifold comes off first!
