Well I am dropping my gas tank to make it easier to put the new transfer case in that has low and was thinking of putting in a new sending unit because my gas gauge has never worked right. Half a tank is full for me. Well called the dealer and BAM! $80 big ones! Can you say rip off. Has anyone got one from someone else. Heck I could get a rear mount tank from the salvage yard for less than that.

WOW http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/eek.gif , I had my buddy the D/C parts manager get one for me last fall and it was only $30 or so, I know his price is not THAT much less than normal. I ended up not needing it and sent it back. My trouble was a busted wire on the top of the sending unit, and I used a small hose clamp to attach it back (did'nt want to pull it out of the tank to mess with it http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/frown.gif )

Just had a thought, if ya want I can get one and send it to ya for the cost + shipping?

See if you can still get it for that price. I will know tonight if I need one or not because I am dropping the tank this evening. Yea I thought $80 was a little steep myself. This same dealer wants $345 for a Q Trac chain and $11 for Q Trac fluid.

I'll give him a call first thing in the morning, as I belive he is gone for the day. I'll let you know the cost, shipping should'nt be a problem- I don't think the whole unit even tops a couple pounds.

Oh, BTW what year/model are we talkin here http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/smile.gif

Well the problem is they don't have it so they have to get it and then tack on the shipping to little ole' me. I have never used this dealer before and probably never will. I usually wind up haggling them down but these folks are way out there!

Cool did it fit ok? Everything same as stock? I know that some people sell universal ones that sometimes do not work right.

Yeah, fit like a glove. Only thing is that the new one doesn't come with the locking ring. I had to use the old one. So far so good.

Well JeepFreak, I've got not so good news. Apparently the sending unit for the 78 Chief is different than my 88 GW http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/confused.gif My parts guy can order it, but it'll cost $62.34 http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/frown.gif sorry. I guess I would pursue that raybucks lead, $47 + shipping sounds alot better.

Sorry I could'nt come through for ya,

I got a new source now that I put in another thread. He can get it for me at $45 but the problem is that they are on back order so I will wait for now and use one from a different tank. I was looking at my tank in the 78 Chero and noticed that there isn't a wire going to the sending unit so I need to figure out where it went to or find out where it is supposed to go to and reconnect it. This Jeep thing is never ending!
