I am replacing the '80 tranny in my '82 wag with a '88 tranny from a GW. these are all 727's i know but, are they all the same? I also have, in my garage, a 2wd version of this tranny (I haven't matched the numbers but the budy of it actually says 727 and other than the tailshaft it looks identical)and I wonder if any of it is transferable, when I rebuild my '80 tranny.

I have done a lot more work with chevy parts than Jeep and I know that part numbers were pretty easy to look up for them, is this the same for AMC? does anyone know where I can get a reliable part number guide for our fullsizes?

All TF727 from FSJ's are the same 80 to 91. If you have a 2 WD version of the TF727 it would be from a Chryco Vehicle. Though the Trans is the same in apearance, and yes the only real thing different is the Tailshaft between 2 WD and 4 Wd. The Chryco Trans will not bolt to an AMC motor, Different Bolt patern on the bellhousing ;)

Zack Heisey sells repops of some of the parts manuals. One covers 74-80 and another 81-86. I don't know if he has earlier or later series avail. Look in the /library/ link on his site.
