I'm upgrading the stereo in Bushwood. This means I need to run new speaker wire and amp cables. This means I've got to take up part of the carpet. I've been wanting to replace the worn/stained carpet... I'd also like to put a new console in the Jeep...

So, I'm going to order new carpet and a new console, and I'm going to do the headliner too...

Couple questions and one favor to ask:

1. Is ACS a good carpet brand?
2. Would the "Tan" leather/carpet in the '88 GWs be considered "Tan" or "Spice" in terms of Tuffy, Steel Horse and the other console guys?
3. Does anyone make a console that is a good fit between the stock seats in a GW (after the center section is removed of course)

Okay, now the favor - I keep my GW 400 miles from where I live, so I can't take measurements when ideas like this hit me... could someone tell me how wide the space between the seats would be after the center section is removed. And, how tall should/could an arm-rest style console be - I guess about 5"-9" above the seat cushion would work(?)

Thanks for any help or ideas!!!

400 Miles?? Trying to keep that FSJ away from those crazies in NYC?

Console width is approx 6-7", not real wide.

Email me at djg0770@yahoo if you want exact dims.

My homemade console is 8 inches wide between the seats and 12 inches high from the floor. Here's a link to some pics of it and some crude drawings with measurements. http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/bentpushrods/lst?.dir=/wag+console&.view=t

The '88 is considered tan(spice is more reddish-tan like the '85 and older I think)but what you might do is call before you order and ask if they can send you a sample of their carpet.Good luck

Not sure if you have the time, but I am arranging to have an upholstery shop (commercial) create fully custom upholstery (to match factory), and carpet sets, rubber mat sets, and headliners.....but should be in a few weeks. Lemme know if you are interested.

Uhm.... billyrb... I thought I was already dumping too much money into my Jeep. Custom upholstery? Sounds really expensive. Can you give me an idea of what kind of money you're lookin at? I'm not in much of a hurry - all upgrades and repairs must be completed by August... Ouray.

Bentpushrod - I can buy a console from Steel Horse that's 9" wide, 12.5" high and 23" long. Do you think that will squeeze in there?

Dan G - Thanks for the measurements. It sounds like 7" is the "relaxed" measurement - with room to squeeze an 8" console, according to bentpushrod's design.

I may buy the 9" wide console and see if it'll fit... I'll keep the box!

Auto Custom Carpets makes a good kit, they told me it includes all the carpeted areas, except for the carpet on the seats and door panels, it does include rear and sides, they can get you any color you want, literally, they even have new colors ie: yellow, orange etc... anything, for the light tan they told it would be like a new Expedition light tan....which is a nice neutral tan.
