Man, oh man! fginally went wheels down to day on the new GW!!! Played around in the yard for a while then decided to see why the transmission was slippin'. NO FLUID! Bone dry! Cool. Put in about 4 quarts. Hmmm... What's that trickling sound? Transmission fluid pouring out a nice steady stream all over the driveway. WOW! I'm not sure but it LOOKS like its coming from a 1/2 inch gap where 2 pieces meet.
I already did a search for this and got some good info but could still use some help. Thanks!!!

O.k. just looked at in the daylight. Thers is a tiny hole (factory) on the back and bottom of the transmission close to where it meets the t-case. it was just pouring fluid from this hole. It didn't seem like all if the fluid came out. What am I in for?

Sounds like the rear tranny seal is leaking, pumping fluid into the xfer case adapter, which, of course, is not meant to retain fluid. Start droppin' that xfer http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/frown.gif

P.S. You seem remarkably (cynically?) upbeat about this...

Just some somewhat related info....
I did a tranny filter and pan seal replacement on my '86 (727) and teh haynes manual said to refill with 8.5 qts (17 if draining the torque converter) cruisiing the next day on the hiway, i smelled burning tranny fluid, came to a stop, and it was pouring out of the tranny!!!
to make a long story short, it turnes out the haynes manual is wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I finally took it to AAmco, and they said it was WAY overfull, and that it should only take 4 qts to refill (1/2 of what i added)
it was then pushing the extra fluid at hiway speeds out the vent, which is located inside the bellhousing. So, add fluid slowly, and check the dipstick (no, not yourself) often!! I assumed incorrectly on my distick reading, so a one banana job turned into a three day, c-note headache!!!
