i just had my engine rebuilt, i was expecting a little better performance out of the 88 GW. So the problem is: I need to pump the gas about 15 time to get it to start, i am thinking it is a problem with the carb. Any body have advice for me. Because of the way i got the truck, i have a feeling that the carb may not be the right one for a GW, any feel back what are good carbs to put on a GW.
thanks
Motorcraft 2150s seem to be a good Carb. Or you could go the expensive route, and get a Weber. I know I like'em. Honestly however, I'd wait until someone else can give you more possibilities to your problem. As it could be a whole bunch more.

Welcome to the forum.
The standard carb for the 360 is the 2 barrel Model 2150. There should be a metal tag on one of the mounting bolts which will ID the carb.
You should not have to pump it 15 times to start. Typically one pump to set the choke and it will fire right up that is if the carb, fuel pump, ignition system is working correctly.
Who rebuilt your motor ? What was rebuilt ? Is there a new fuel pump? How does it run after you get it started?
Could be a few things wrong: Fuel pump, filter, carb choke/pump,ignition/timing.

… A cool idea is two buy a matching carburetor from a salvage yard and learn to rebuild it in your spare time. It doesn’t take long to swap them out for a test.

[QB]I'll second that. I can swap a carb out in 10 minutes now.

Id go with the fact that the carb might not be the right one...as far as I know they came from the factory with an edelbrock carb/intake.....im tellin the truth, honest smile.gif

yah it was really weird how they came with some egr intakes from edelbrock, and some not so egr??? lol
If your fuel filter is type with a return line, make sure the return line is ABOVE the in/carb line. If it is down, the fuel will run out of the filter and back to the tank. Causing the fuel pump to try and fill the filter before the carb. My dads Jeep did this for years, we flipped the filter into the proper position, starts right up. Most repair manuals also mention the position of the filter.

OK I checked my carb, there is no model number. AS for how cold is it, 50 - 60 degrees.
Here is better info. After letting it warm up for 5 mins. The first time I hit the gas, it comes really close to stalling. 50% of the time, when I stop and start to accelerate again it will hesitate or almost stall and I have really bad acceleration. I turned my filter up and, no improvement. I think I am going to replace my carb, just about everything else is new from the pump forward. Does anybody have more suggestions or ideas. Also, anybody have a good source for carbs.

Get a vacuum guage so you can set the mixture screws. Tey may be in to far or out to far. If you dont have one, then you can set the screws out two turns out, that should get you close enough to where its supposed to be for testing. Make sure your choke is opening, if not you will flood the engine when ever you hit the throttle. Then test to see if the accelerator pump is working. To do this take the air cleaner off, look down int he carb (engine off of course) and movve thr thottle back. You should see two jets of fuel squirt in. If you see nothing or just a drop or so then the accelerator needs to be replaced inside the carb.
