Anyone know anything about one of these? This one has a 258, automatic transmission, locking hubs , and 2.72 axles. I assume this is a 727 transmission, but what transfer case? I am also not familiar with the Pioneer package in the Cherokees. It has three-toned bucket seats and door panels in vinyl, manual windows and mirrors(but power door locks) and the door panels are similar in design (chrome retaining strip at the top that holds the panel on) to my 74 panels (they fit about 2" lower down on the door and the door above them is painted, not the burl wood look)

it may be a 909 trans which is a lighter duty version of the 727

With a 258/auto/2.72 gears, that thing might have problems getting out of its OWN way! :D

Locking hubs would likely be a NP208. If it's got the SelecTrac(inside switch), then it should be a NP229 I believe(think that's the year they started using that). But, hubs tell me it's prolly a 208.
The Pioneer package was mostly just that...a package. Particular trim, maybe certain seat/panel coverings, maybe particular tires, etc. I'd have to look up and see what may have been included in that, but it's mostly just "stuff"....no real major anything different.
I'd also gather it'd be a 909(9XX series Chryco) tranny, and not the 727, but you'd have to take a peak to see for sure. Either way, it'd serve well if it's used moderately....no race buggy there, but you should get decent MPG with it!

I take it you bought it off of Bonkers, who couldn't pick it up in Falls Church?

Yes, it is the vehicle from Falls Church. I had called the guy because I wanted the 258 engine. I told him to keep my number and if the buyer wanted a 360 with 4 barrel I would trade. When all the Ebay buyers backed out he called me in desperation. I picked it up Friday night (it had to be gone by Saturday). I will use the engine, tires, maybe the axles, and a couple of other minor parts then part out before I get rid of it. The front grill was in mint condition and lloks really cool on the 74 so I guess i will use that too.

Trim packages on FSJ's (and probably other Jeeps, too), don't mean much. I've got a Golden Eagle that would be a base model with air otherwise.
At best, Jeeps were a comglomeration of parts, that the factory people put together with what they had on hand. Some of the factory "items" make for odd/rare vehicles!

1jeep4me,
Yes I am. The Pioneer interior does not match my 74/84/87 Wagoneer Custom/Grand Wagoneer interior(leather caramel). What all are you interested in?

on that note does it have a cargo cover? i could use some of the interior parts, how is the panel that covers the jack compartment looking? and maybe one of the front seats.

Dustinlib,
Thank for the rundown of the Cherokee Pioneer. This one is a four door and has most of what's on the list (seats are not cloth). It's Memorial day and I am working (the pits). Wish I had seen your post before the weekend, I could have taken some digital pictures. No cargo cover, but all the panels appear to be in good condition. Driver's seat has rips in the vinyl and appears to be wracked a little. All other seats are in excellent condition. The rims on this vehicle are different from any I have seen. It has stock center caps but there is a wide chrome piece around the outter edge. Has new 30x9.50's on them. Also has an orginal temporary spare that has never been off/on the vehicle (still has the "hair" on it). I will takes some pictures this week if it ever stops raining here.
