Parking brake won't engage

The pedal won't lock down all the time. You push it down and it come right back up. Other times it works fine. Is there some kind of rachet mechanism or something that might have stripped teeth?

I have encountered this on GM's. The grease in the ratchet mechanism gets hard and prevents proper opperation. Try some WD40 or PB Blaster. If that doesn't help, you may have to disassemble and clean the pedal assembly.

chevelleguy is 100% correct. Same thing happend with mine and i dissasmbled it and cleaned the mechanism. It worked fine after that. After doing this, I realized I could have just blasted it with WD40 and it would have taken care of the crusted grease.
