tappets

I know that the 401 has no adjustable tappets but what exactly would i be looking for that causes all the clattering! compression is even across all cylinders, albeit up at 180 (probably carbon)

The rockers? rods? both? more?

(Don't newbies ask ridiculous questions?)

Might have a lifter that just has some crap in it. Could be an exhaust leak sounding like a lifter also.
