Hi all. Are there any diffrences in the wiring harness between the '78 and the '79 waggy? If so what are the diffrences. And how do you distinguish them apart. TIA

michael, the only fuse i even see is spliced into the system, and its missing the fuss box. what kind of shape is your fuss box?if your still interested make me an offer. other than that it looks good.

The main difference in the wiring itself is at the ignition control module and the alternator. I believe the 78 used an external voltage regulator, where the 79 was internal on the alt. The 78 had the ICM on the passenger side inner wheel well, the 79 is on the drivers side, and has the clip-lock type connections.

Sandman. I hope you were joking on the guy who was selling or I would say you are loosing you mind. I will look at my fuse box tonight. All I know is that I really need the engine compartment harness. It is nasty bowl of spaghetti!!! :D ;)

yea,i was in a real weird mood earlyer, and yes i an loosing my mind, whats left of it anyway. as far as the wireing harness, the engine compartment section is in real good shape.it's still got the covering on it.you should be able to just plug it up and go,it looks like it would be prety simple. just let me know your thought on it when you get a chance.

I think you're a year off on that switch-over, as my '78 has the Duraspark ignition box on the driver's-side fender and an internally-regulated Delco alternator from the factory. The '77 and earlier used the BID ignition and Motorcraft externally-regulated alternator (though the earlier 6-cyl setups seem to have used the interally-regulated alternator as far back as '76, based on a wiring-diagram I've got).

So on those notes, Sandman....
Do you have a camera you can take a photo for me and email me. I would like to see the main connecter to the ign. module and any other connectors to make sure it will work. TIA

DOH!!! Sorry all, I was going from memory on a parts Jeep I had a few years ago. In my head, it was a 78, but in actuality it must have been a 77. Sorry if I confused anyone...

No problem Sitting Bull. So on that note are the '78 and the '79 compatable? Other than the Fuse boxes???? Say the engine compartment harness?????
