ok....so i finally broke down and bought a new muffler.....could one of yall gimme some step by step instructions on replacing it....it would be much appreciated......oh yeah, its on a 87' gw v8

I did the same thing, then started trying to cut the old one off. All the rust particles falling back in my face was real annoying. I ended up going to an exhaust shop. Yep, I could have done it alright. But it was a lot easier for them with a lift and torch and was pretty cheap. Good Luck with it, whatever you do. just my .02.

I had to cut mine off with a 4.5" grinder. It got kind of tricky but it is do-able. I then used clamps and adapters from the parts store to put my new $20 muffler on.
If you don't have a grinder, they sell them for $20 at places like harbor freight.

If your dad has a sawzall, go buy a metal cutting blade. Should be a touch easier than the grinder (the top part is hard to cut with a grinder).

you wont want to hear this either, but bitter experience has taught me to replace the muff and t/p together. the rusty t/p dosnt handle the transplant well. good luck and i recommend goggles to keep the rust out of your eyes
