There is a 86 K30 tow truck by me that is going to be auctioned. It doen't have a motor in it, but it's got a 14bolt dually rear, D60 front, and an np205. I know that it's got the "small" 14 bolt, but I am going to lo ball bid if the rear be converted easily? Thanks for any info guys.

I don't understand what you mean by converted. All you need to do is measure the axle and the spring pads and see if that's what you want. Then run a stock 8 hole wheel. If you can get it cheap it sounds like a hell of a deal to me, a D60, NP205, Copr 14 and the tranny. What transmission does it have in front of the 205? If it's a 4 spd it will probably be a SM465, it's like the 205 almost unbreakable.

You might want to measure it very carefully for width on the drums/hubs. Most of the cab and chassis trucks had a narrower rearend than say the dually trucks. It wasn't as important to have 4ft in between the wheels on a cab and chassis and kept the trucks normal width w/o fenders sticking out. That's how it worked in the 70's anyway.

the dually housing is narrower, and its got very looooooong brake drums. i looked at a dually 70 rear end(couldve got 2 of em for $200) but it wasnt gonna work for me,cause i would have needed a very loooooooong spacer either for the rotor,or for the caliper bracket to make disca, neither idea i liked very well.
if you can handle the goofy lng brake drums,i dont see why you cant simply run a single 8 lug wheel, like 64trvlr said.
are you sure the 14 bolt is the small one? gm used the big one well past 86,and if a rig is heavy duty enuff to have a 60 front its prolly got the 10.5" 14 bolt.it is full floating, yes?
having said all that, there are alot of people that will pay several hundred $$$ for a front dana 60. if you get a tranny and xfer, wheels, some kind of rear end, maybe even some driveshafts and other bits and pieces, its prolly worth whatever you gotta pay for it,if you can get it for a few hundred $$$.you can pick up the big 14 bolt for $200 or less any day of the week round here,so dont let the rear talk you out of it if its not the big one.front 60 is defiantely worth it.
sounds like a great parts rig to me! smile.gif i dont suppose theres still a winch on it,is there? hydraulic, pto,or electric? that wuold definately sweeten the deal :D
let us know if ya get it...
