hi all
ok i have this problem. I put a rebuilt tranny on my rig and then tried to start it and low and behold, the little wire coming from the negative terminal that goes to the inner fender started to smoke. i pulled off the starter and then it spun freely but then i put it back on and tried starting again and the little wire went up in smoke instantly. what do i do to fix this?

Sounds like your main Ground wire going from the battery to the engine block is in poor condition or the ends are dirty. What is happening is the ground is being pulled through the little wire that is intended for the lights and accessories.That is why when you tried to start it w/ the starter off the block it didn't smoke(there was no load on it to draw the high amps) as soon as you hooked it up again the amp draw was increased and therfore smoked the wire again. Check over your main ground from the bat. to the block....that should take care of it.
