under-dash AC housing...

I want to change my under-dash AC housing from tan to black. Can this be accomplished without disconnecting the hoses?

How available are these housings? Anybody have a black one in good condition?

some one should ,other wise take it loose as far as you can and tape everything else off

I worded that all wrong. I will not be painting my AC housing, I would be removing it and exchanging it for another one. Can it be removed without disconnecting the hoses? in other words, can one remove the housing yet leave the evaporator attached?

Yes - if I remember correctly. The plastic assembly should come off and separate into 3 pieces. The top of the right-most assembly should come off to expose the evvap, hoses and insulating tape.

Yah, but it would be a real pain in the butt. The plastic housing has a access door in the top you can take off and then just slide out the evaporator. the pain comes in trying to do this all under the dash, not a lot of room to work and you may not end up with the clearance you need to totally slide it out.

it would be basically impossible to take it apart under the dash without just evacuating the system... would just evacuate the system then replace the unit..that is assumeing you have proper certification in your state to work on ac. smile.gif
