I just picked-up my AMC 4v (speedbore) intake today! (Thanks, Josh) I took alook at the 4350 linkage on Bahamut's 75 and it looks identical to mine 'cept for the c/c linkage and that appears to be removable so I can probably mount that up in the hope that sometime in the future my c/c will again work. I forgot to measure the vertical clearance though but if I recall correctly the aircleaner should fit as well. Now all I need is a carb. Any suggestions on getting a cheap 4300 or 4350 and what's the diff between them anyway?

Just off the top of my head i'm not too familiar with motocraft carbs but the 4300 was used inthe early 70s and used a power valve set up.The 4350 had a metering rod set up like the Q jet and i assume was more smog friendly as it was in the later years. both are spread bore.
I found a 4350 in the junk yard but i'm not sure if it was for the cherokee that was there, could just be for a ford as they parked it in the ford truck section.
if you want to take a chance they want $25.00 plus core. i'm sure it needs rebuilding. i was interested in it too but i spent my last $40.00 on brake drums for my waggy.

A junk yard wants a core(charge)? Anyway you could compare the linkage with your rig? Do you have a 2v or 4v or your rig? Thanks for the tip.

Well i can try to make it out there and compare it. assuming its still there.

you should call Scotty's jeep in fontana
909-829-2913/909-350-2738
or
Tony's truck wrecking in Monrovia
626-446-3165/626-447-1548

both closed sundays.

if thier price is ok let me know. Send me the funds and i'll get it for you, no charge. gives me an excuse to visit the jeep candy stores.

I have the 2bbl now since i need to get it smog checked in November. in your area do you check it every two years too?
But i was running a Q jet on a older non emissions Edelbrock. I sold the edelbrock when i need fix the tranny money.
i REALLY, REALLY, REEAAALLY miss the HONNNNK of those secondaries.
It feels like my truck gained 2000 pounds when i switched back to the 2bbl.

If I'm not mistaken, the 4300/50 difference is an altitude compensator, much like the 2100/50 carbs.

Thanks to both of youse! I'll call those numbers next week. I appreciate the handling
offer Rudy. We have no smog requirements unless there is a transfer of title. I think the law applies to vehicles newer than 20 years only though. Thanks to you to Josh. What do you need to do before you can come 4 wheelin' with me? Let me know if I can help any way. http://smilecwm.tripod.com/net8/pumpkin.gif

What does that altitude compensator do? Apparently my 2v has one.

It compensates for altitude, of course...
::ducks&runs::

Seriously, IIRC it adjusts the mixture so you don't get (as much) ping at higher altitudes.

Let's see, I can issue you a Jefferson Driver's License. We don't take pictures or thumb prints. http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/smile.gif And if I may make a suggestion, let your instructors see your rig, that way if you're ever late or blow-off class they'll understand when you say you broke down. http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/biggrin.gif We'll figure something out and go thrash some wildlife sanctuary or something.

This reminds me of the old joke about a guy explaining to a kid how a Thermos(tm) works.
"It keeps hot things hot & cold things cold" says the man. The kid replied "Yeah but how does it know?"
So would a carb with an altitude compensator run properly at all altitudes or just higher ones?

The altitude compensator is basically flexible membrane covering a sealed chamber, kind of like a little drum mounted sideways. It helps to maintain a stable air/fuel ratio inside the carb when external atmospheric pressure changes. If you take one apart, you essentially zero the altitude compensator at whatever air pressure exists at the moment you reassemble it.

It's one of the most ingenius devices, really.

BTW, to "zero" means to establish a "default setting" or a "reference setting."

Well i looked over the junkyard 4350 and the throttle linkage looks similar to the one on my 2 bbl motocrp.
So it should work.

Cool! And thanks for the effort!! Was that the unit for $25?? Let me know as I'm ready to transfer funds ASAP. You've been a great help. I owe you a tow or jump start or something... http://smilecwm.tripod.com/net4/0000007.gif
