View Full Version : What year.......10" rims

What year did Jeep start offering 10" rims as an option for FSJ's? I have a friend that's a mechanic and claims he has never seen 10" rims on an FSJ. I have calmly stated that mine has 10" rims and as far as I know they are stock. However, when I referenced the sales brochure I have for the 77 model year, a 10" rim is not listed as an option. I know my rims are 10" because Sears would not mount a 33x12.5 BFG on a rim smaller than 8.5 as it would go against the recommended rim size and void the warranty and roadside assistance program. I asked them to verify my rim size and they said 10" (which is what I knew anyways). I had to go to the junkyard for a 5th rim so I could keep one of my old, but not too terribly worn 32x11.5 BFG's as a spare. The rim I got was identical to the ones I already had and were taken off a de-bodied Wide-Trac. The same rims were on all of the other Wide-Trac's in the yard. I doubt that it is a coincidence that all FSJ owners would all buy the same 10" steel rim.

Can anybody help with this one?

I really think the widest rim offered was an 8 inch, maybe 8.5? What portion of the rim are you measuring the width at? If you are measuring the widest outside edge it may appear to be 10 inches but that would really be a 8 inch rim as you should measure the inner flange where the bead of the tire actually seats. This will be the true width of the rim.

According to factory literature, the largest rim offered on an FSJ was the 15"x8" spoked steel rim, in white or chrome, or the Chevy-style Rally rim used on the early Chiefs.

All FSJ aluminum rims were 15"x7".

Do you have pictures of your rims?

Wide Track Cherokee Turbine mags. 15x10.

I don't know the years offered, but there are pics in the for sale section, and over at Full Size Jeeps.

It seems it was a limited offering, but there is some year of the owners manual that specs them out.

My 78 WT came with 10 inch rims. Says it right on the build sheet!

My best guess is the build sheet say's 10.0X31 inch tires,
but I have also seen a build sheet for a 86 that said it had
a dissconnect front axle (thank god they stopped doing that
after 84, and yes my 83 has the darn thing) so I personally
do not put a lot of faith in Jeep build sheets.

That 10-15 is the old designation for the size of flotation tires, not the rims, that the WT's were equipped with from the factory.

I would like to see some documentation on those 15"x10" turbine rims as factory items, and not merely dealer add-ons.

Looked at the rims again today. On the inside of them there is a stamp on each rim that says 10". Also, when I measure them, they are about 11.5" from bead to bead. Here is a pic (with my old 32's).
