you should be able to get a rebuilt from a trans shop or parts store you have a non-lockup converter

Most of the Jeeps I've dealt with after 84 are lock-up converters.

Any transmission shop will have a book to list the proper torque converter for your make/model/year/engine/tranny setup. To go one step up in the marketing chain, try to find a transmission parts supplier.

A torque converter at the wholesale level should cost less than $110. I've bought two of them in the past year, including one last week for my 1982 Wag 258/727. Anything you pay beyond that amount would be markup, so that should give you a reference for haggling.

Jeep wasn't very clear about what they installed their lockup trannys in. The books say to look for the nipple at the end of the input shaft to distinguish lockup from non-lockup; no distinguishing external features. All the later trannys I've seen have been non-lockup.

Sorry to be no help; just want to warn that the books at the parts-source may not be much definitive help.
