I have a 72 J-4000 with the AMC 360. I Have noticed that the belt alignment on the water pump pulley does not match up with the alternator and crank pullies. Were there different "nose" lengths on the AMC 360 water pumps for other applications ? Or might the problem be a pulley that was put in at some time that does not have enough offset? If it is the pulley where could the right one be found ? Any help is appreciated. Thanx DW.

Never heard that one before. Obviously, no engineer would design a belt-driven device that way.

You should have a dual 'V' groove pulley setup on the water pump and A/C (if so equipped). Ensure the belts are aligned on the proper pullies in the right order... could be off... Just a thought...
