Joker's '88 GW

About 5 months ago, I had to replace my gas cap and went to the Stealership and paid the $22 for a new Jeep Cap that was designed for my '88 truck.
It didn't appear to be vented, but the part number was correct.
Suddenly, after I replaced my busted fuel pump, the tank appears to be holding alot of pressure. When I remove the gas cap, you can hear the rush of air going into the tank. I am concerned that I am going to collapse the tank due to the vacuum that is building up in the tank.
Why is this caused and what is the worse case scenario that can happen? Is this something to be concerned about?
What can I do to prevent this from happening?
Thanks
