Whenever I fill up the fuel tank completely (a pull or two past the point that the hose automatically cust off) gas will leak out of the tank from somewhere. I assume it is a vent line but I'm not positive.

Last time I filled up I made a point of getting it full and shimmied underneath to see where it was leaking from. I looked for a loose line or if the sending unit gasket had failed, but nope. Everything was dry at the front of the tank.

The gas was coming from the top/back part of the tank from somewhere and dripping off of the inside mounting brackets near the driveshaft area. Are the vent/expansion lines on the top of the tank on a J10? I haven't had a chance to really get under there and look. Are the vent lines accessable without dropping the tank down?

Thanks

There are three lines that come off your gas tank. Filler, filler vent, and charcoal can. These can rot out and fail. On my 79 Chero, the lines are easily accessible without dropping the tank. They stick out the back. Be prepared, the filler hose is 1"ID fuel hose, which is tricky to come by. Have it on hand before you yank the old one or you'll be stuck. Try Big Rig stores/Truck Stop Repair or Ag. Supply Stores.

The main fill pipe line and the fill pipe vent go into the side/top corner of the tank above where the sending unit mounts. On the very top of the tank is where the tanks vent line connects.

Yea, it's not leaking from the fill lines or the fill vent line so it must be the one on top. As I assumed, the one that will be the biggest PITA. Thanks for the confirmation Joe.
