does anyone know the diference in width between the 14 bolt and the j-20 dana 60? mounting serface to mounting surface is the 14 bolt wider? if so how much? the reason i ask is i have a friend who is haveing clearance problems between his rear tires and springs and doesn't want to change rims.

I understand them to be 10" wider than a NT axle. That would make it 4" wider than a WT axle??? maybe?

I don't know if the 14 bolt is all that much wider. Can't remember seeing actual measurements, but from what I've read it seems that everybody that puts the 14 bolt on a FSJ has to swap on disc brakes because of a clearance issue...... possibly that has nothing to due with WMS - WMS distance and just the fit of the 15"? rim?

Sorry a corp 14 bolt is 67" and a J-20 dana 60 is 67". Elliot your listings are front end widths but NT are 60", WT are 65" and Full width are 67-69 depending on ford, chevy or dodge front ends.

Corporate 14 bolts come in 3 primary widths....the narrow width for the duallies, the regular width of the pickups, which is the 67"ish that blt2krl said and then the wider width which came on 15 passenger vans....closer to the 69" or better that Elliot stated. I don't know about the D60 on the J20....but that seems to have been covered.

I believe the j20 d60 is 67" and the normal 14 bolt is 67". My rear j10 axles are 65". In a previous thread we determined that the 14 bolt is a good fit in a wide track, but if you want to put one under a j truck you need to convert it to disks. The j truck frame requires spring pads at 50" in the rear, I think the wag was 42? The drum brake backing plate curves towards the sping on teh 14 bolt and will not allow the pads to be moved outward to 50" unless a disk brake conversion is used.

my friend who has the j-20 has disk brakes on his rear axle and still does not have any more that 1/4 inch clearance between his tires and springs. are the widths you all are talking about from mounting surface to mounting surface? basicaly he needs an axle about 2 inches wider. what would you recomend? 15 passenger van 14 bolt?

NT axles are 57" wide in back afaik. 6" narrower then WT (excluding j-truck) axles. J-Truck axles are wider then WT cherokee rear axles.

This has pretty well been nailed down. I am taking the 14 bolt out of my choptop to put in the 120" WB J/10/M715 project. For sure a standard 67" WMS to WMS will not fit the J truck without swapping to discs. The drums are deeper than a J truck and the backing plates will hit the springs. Swapping to discs is easier than rebuilding the drums and not that expensive. The 57" 14 bolt will easily fit the WT Cherokee or Wagoneer because the springs are spaced closer than the J truck.
If you want to keep drums, the only 14 bolt that will work in the J truck or M715 is the 14 bolt van axle which is a couple of inches wider.
TexasJ10, where did you get the disc setup for your Dana 70 and how much was it? I am going HD Dana 70 rear on my choptopM715 this week.

Brian, havent fully finished my 14ff yet, but it is 67". Im having to cut the pearches off and move them out a few inches. Thats why I had to do the disk conversion. Will fit fine now. I was assured that a 15" rim, with 4" bs would fit, just have to do some caliper grinding. I went ahead and got 16" rims, just cause I needed new ones anyway. I dont know why he is that close to the leafs? The AMC20 I took out was 65" WMSto WMS. So with the 14ff being 67", I should actually pick up an inch per side. Will know for sure next week, but all the eyeballing and measuring Ive done, shows me that I will be at least 1-1.5" away from my leafs.

FSJeeper, I didn't find one yet that works with my d70. TSM has a few kits for d70's but not one that fit my flange bolt pattern. I talked to someone at TSM who said they would send me a bracket without the holes drilled but suggested that I get it all set up first to determine whether the bracket had to be offset or not. Apparently most of the D70's need to have the caliper bracket on the exact same plane as the flange. I'm using a Ford d70B, and interestingly, the hubs need to be machined a little so that the Chevy rotors will slide over them. I tried a Ford rotor and it had the same problem. I picked up a used Ford d60 hub last weekend and it is the same hub with the same problem. I'll let you know when I corral the pieces. Actually you may figure it out before I get the time. It sounds like you are moving pretty fast.
