Thanks to those who last week suggested solutions to my vapor lock problem. Maybe this is related? The longer by 87 GW sits, the harder it is to start. Overnight? No problem. 5-6 days...tough and lots of cranking. 2 weeks? I'm afraid I'll drain the battery trying to get it to "catch". Any ideas, anyone? Turkeyman

Turkeyman... The fuel may be slowly draining from the fuel lines due to worn valves in the fuel pump. .. cul.. ;) ds..

Is your fuel filter properly positioned? The return line on the filter needs to be in the 12:00 position. Do you see any leaks or wet spots around the carb?

If any of the above great ideas don't solve the issue, check the accelerator pump too. I had a hard start problem and noticed a wet area directly around and underneath the accelerator pump cover. When I took it out for a look-see, the pump diaphragm was practically falling apart. Replaced it and fixed my problem.
Good luck!

If it is your accelerator pump, do yourself a favor and rebuild the whole thing as it usually seems to be that when one part is due to be replaced, so are many others.
I had that symptom caused by a float that was filled with gas. It caused it to flood when I went to start it every time. During the rebuild, I noticed that the accelerator pump diaphragm was worn along with everything else. The diaphragm is included in the rebuild kit.
