Hey guys, this is a bit off topic but you guys are the best so I'm gonna ask here.

My buddy just built a 406 sbc for his CJ and it was running really good right away, then he started to have some problems with it. The specs as I know them are a 400 .030" over I believe, about 9.5:1 compression, world heads, comp "4x4" cam, wiend(sp?) intake and he was running a q-jet carb and HEI dist.

At first all was good, ran like a top. Then he ended up with a hole in the vacuum advance on the dist so he swapped that out with a different one and it hasn't been quite right ever since. At the moment it seems like it's running out of gas under load. When he takes off if he gasses it hard it bogs down like it's not getting enough fuel, if he eases it up slow it's fine but if he gets on it at all it just tries to die.

We thought maybe it was the carb so he swapped on an Edelbrock 1405 and the people at edelbrock told him what rods to use and it's still doing it. He's got 5/16" lines all the way from the tank.

Any ideas guys? Anything else you need to know?

Thanks a bunch guys,
Anthony

im not great with this sorta thing but it sounds like a timing problem, my old monte carlo did the same thing when swaped out for a bigger v8. my problem was the timing was off by a few degrees, ran fine at idle but bogged down or died under load. its worh a shot

That's what others have suggested too...maybe he got the new dist. off a tooth or two when he put it in...

I'll let him know, thanks,
Anthony

sounds like he put a early vac advance pot on a late dist buy the right vac adavance for the dist and it wont short out

It's a brand new distributor. That shouldn't be the problem but I'll tell him.
