I asked way to many question on FSJ project in my earlier post, so I broke up the questions in several post and spread them over a couple of days. Thanx for your understanding and patience with my FSJ zeal!

I plan on swapping out my very dead 258 I6 in my '82 Wagoneer Limited. I have purchased an AMC 360, the rad and motor mount from a late 70's (1979 the seller thought) model J series pickup.

Questions and the actual swap itself.
What tips, tricks and other secrets do I need to know about swapping out the 258 for the 360?

Will the motor mounts from the J truck be easy to install? Drilling or welding required?

What about the wiring? Linkage for the carb? Trans kickdown? (the J truck was a 4 speed)

If I use the stock J truck exhaust manifolds, what exhaust pipes will I need to use? Custom fab?

Thanx in advance for your help!

Stock exhaust will work fine.(jtrucks are like wags from the back of the front door forward)I think if you use the exhaust y-pipe from an 1980 or later, it will bolt right in. The 1979 might not work because the front diff is on the opposite side.
The motor mounts will go right in. The holes are different, but should already be there. Look a little forward of where the 258's mounts were. I was told by a guy who knows, that welding is not needed. You might need to cut the radiator support, and you will need at least a three core radiator. The 258's is narrower than the stock 360's radiator.
You will also need to move the tranny forward, but the holes, once again should be already there. Bad news is, you might need two new driveshafts. Good news is, you might be able to use stock ones from a 360 wag.
Wiring??could go either way. Not sure when, but AMC put computers to control the carb on some 258's. If so, you might need to do some wiring to bypass it. This is the stage that I'm at right now. If you don't have a 'puter, then it is really simple. I think you will have to lengthen a couple of wires. No big deal.
One more thing, the fuel lines come into the engine compartment on different sides, so you will have to come up with a solution for that. tongue.gif
Good luck!! and let us know if we can help!
