It's time for an exhaust system for my '88 GW. I've read many positive things in this forum about Flowmaster mufflers. Everything is stock on my rig and would like to stay as close to that as possible. For those of you who have Flowmasters, which series do you recommend?

40-series-->loud, best perfomance, sound sweet :D
50-series--> More chambers, quieter, still good
I suggest going to their site. Sound samples and available sizes there.

i have 40 series on mine, but theyre quite loud. i believe that the 60 or 70 series will keep the noise closter to stock.

I am using the 70 series. I like the sounds. My kids say it is to loud. I am running my without the cat. converter. This might make it a little louder. It did save me about 2 miles per gal.

I went with the 50 series...awesome!!!
The guy that put'em on said that he had them on his Wag and hated them. To much rumble inside the cab.
Best of luck.

I just got the 50 Series Delta Flow. Sounds great! It is a bit louder when you are going slow; but it pretty much just blends in with the road noise above 30 mph.

I just put a new exhaust on from the cat back. It fell off one day when I was cruising to work down the highway.
I got a 50 series delta flow (2.5 offset in and 2.5 centered out) and a new tailpipe from autozone. I was absolutly amazed when everything was the right size just slipped together. Couple new clamps and hangers and I was on my way.
The 50 series delta is definately louder at the low rpms but about the same cruising down the highway at 65 as my old stock type muffler. I think you wil like the sound.

I am using the 70-series on my '88 GW. It's a bolt-on, and it's definitely louder than stock. Check my sig for details on that muffler.

I went with the 50 series "SUV Performance" Flowmaster and added the heat shield.
Driving down the road there is zero resonance inside the vehicle and I'm kinda dissapointed with the sound. Sounds just barely throatier than my stock 89 wag muff(which had a small hole in it). Next time I'll go to a more aggressive series flowmaster.
I don't want it really loud just the powerful sound.

I have run both 40s and 50s with various tube sizes, 40 series sound soooo good but depending on how its run and tube size, it resonates and can get annoying depending on your patients. 2 1/4 pipe seems to resonate less for me. Of course higher series mufflers give you great performance with less noise.

sjedge said it just right. 50 delta is very nice.

Question for those of you running 2 in 1 out. Are you using an "H" pipe or any crossover? My "Y" pipe has a couple of holes that I'll patch for now, but sooner (inspection) or later (emmissions) I'll have to start replacing pipes and mufflers. I was thinking of two pipes into a 50's series, or won't I be able start it up early on Saturday mornings ;)
